The vessel operator interacts with commercial e-logbook software onboard the vessel.  The e-logbook software must be [certified|Hawaii Longline Logbook E-Signature Risk Assessment^E-log Cert Guidelines, version 1.4 (Draft).pdf] as compliant with electronic reporting specifications.

The vessel operator must record the day's fishing activity within 24 hours of the conclusion of the fishing day.  When the vessel operator has entered a day's fishing activity and indicates a desire to conclude the data entry session, the e-logbook program will present the [signing ceremony|E-Signature User Experience - Terms and Conditions, Signing Ceremony, Receipt], which may look something like this:

The vessel operator completes an e-signature by typing his/her name in the box and pressing the _Electronically Sign_ button, at which point the e-logbook program records the e-signature and concludes the data entry session.
