Overview
The eLandings system is an electronic reporting system used in Alaska fisheries. It was developed as a cooperative venture by the Alaska Department of Fish and Game, the National Marine Fisheries Service Alaska region, and the International Pacific Halibut Commission. It allows landing, production, and logbook reports to be made using PC software and the Internet.
A major goal of the eLandings system is to provide one time data entry for seafood processors. That is, the system supports processors entering landing data in one system, either eLandings or their own business system, and transferring the data electronically to other systems where it is needed. To facilitate this goal, the eLandings system provides system interfaces that allow other systems to transmit and receive eLandings data. Both seafood processors and third party software developers who serve the seafood processing industry have expressed interest in making use of these capabilities. The eLandings system development team has created documentation for the system interfaces and the data that is passed across them. Processors and third party developers have found the documentation useful, and believe that use of the interfaces can reduce their data processing and reporting costs.
A copy of the eLandings system interface documentation is available on the FIS website. It serves as an example for electronic reporting system developers in other jurisdictions on how a system interface can be built and used. The documentation shows many of the components and services an electronic reporting system can provide to seafood processors' system, to facilitate comprehensive and accurate reporting.
